Our Mission: Providing  Security Through Blankets...

Our mission is simple: to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. We do this by giving them gifts of new, handmade blankets, quilts and afghans, lovingly created for Project Linus by volunteer "blanketeers." The Blanketeers are part of our mission, as well: we seek to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

"The best kind of sleep under heaven above, is under a blanket handmade with love."

Project Linus had its beginnings in December 1995 after Karen Loucks was inspired to make blankets for her local children's cancer center. Since then, Project Linus has expanded to include children who are seriously ill or traumatized in many ways. To date, over 300 chapters of Project Linus exist nationally, with more than eight million blankets donated to children!

Project Linus was named after the adorable security blanket-toting character from the Peanuts© comic strip. Creator Charles Shultz was aware of the efforts of Project Linus and was delighted to have Linus inspire blanket makers to help comfort children in need.

Project Linus is a volunteer non-profit organization.
