The Mystery Quilt Challenge is a yearly fund-raiser for Project Linus. “Clues” are revealed over several weeks which will give participants very detailed written and video instructions to complete a beautiful child- or teen-sized quilt. Anyone who makes one of these quilts can then enter the finished quilt into our Mystery Quilt Contest.
Our next Mystery Quilt Challenge is set to begin late August 2023. It’s associated Mystery Quilt Contest will begin mid-January 2024 and end later that month. Winners will be announced on Make a Blanket Day 2024. BACKGROUND
The first Project Linus Mystery Quilt challenge took place in 2015 and was called “Lukey the Lucky Penguin.” The quilt was a tribute to Luke Shields, Mary Balagna’s grandson who passed away in 2006. The tremendous support created by Lukey participants provided the inspiration to continue the fund-raiser in 2016 with a quilt challenge named after Mary’s granddaughter Gracie called “Gracie’s Get Well Garden,” followed by “Exploring the World with Ethan” in 2017, “Sweet Violet’s Bakery and Confectionery” in 2018, “Logey Bear Leads the Way” in 2019, and “Lucy’s Love Notes!” in 2020. |
The Project Linus Mystery Quilt Challenge is a weekly mystery quilt reveal held once a year as a fundraiser for Project Linus. Registration is a $20 donation to Project Linus and can be done by going to the website HERE. Each week a “mystery clue,” will be revealed. Quilters of all levels of expertise who have registered for the challenge will be given detailed instructions and videos as they complete a child or teen-sized quilt. The quilt challenge will be followed by a contest for participants who are interested in entering their finished quilts. Prizes will be awarded to the quilt that raises the most money for Project Linus through an online voting process. (Participation in the contest is OPTIONAL and only for those residing in the USA.)
