Make a Difference 2017 Challenge

What is the "Make a Difference 2017 Challenge"?

Blanketeers are to make a quilt illustrating the theme for the challenge, using the fat quarter of fabric provided. Quilts will be displayed at our 2017 Make a Difference Day Luncheon on 10-28-17. Following the luncheon, the quilt will be donated to a Project Linus child.

What is the challenge for 2017?

Picture
The challenge is to use the fat quarter of fabric provided in your kit illustrating the theme "Going Forward".

Challenge Description:

There are two categories:
          1. "Adult Fundraising Category" for blanketeers 18 and over.
          2. "Kids Fundraising Category" for blanketeers under 18 years old.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three quilts in each age category that have raised the most money for Project Linus. Invite family, friends, coworkers and neighbors to vote for your Make a Difference quilt. Votes are $1.00 each and we ask that you collect ($$$) ahead of time and bring them with you to the luncheon.

What is the object of the Make a Difference Quilt Challenge?

The object of the Make a Difference Challenge is three-fold:
          1. To make quilts for seriously ill and traumatized children
          2. To acknowledge a quilter's extraordinary efforts
          3. To earn dollars for Project Linus

Will my quilt be judged?

Yes - but only if you would like your quilt to be judged. We have a judge who will select the top three quilts in the challenge. Only quilts in the Adult Category will be judged. The judge will award 1st, ant and 3rd place ribbons based on the following criteria:
         - Creativity used in illustrating the theme and using the challenge fabric in your quilt design
         - Quality of workmanship
         - Does the quilt meet Project Linus specifications in size, construction and materials used?
                  1. Quilts must be a minimum of 35'' x 45'' and a maximum of 40'' x 60''
                  2. Quilts may not have embellishments attached that could be dangerous to a child (buttons, paint, etc.)
                  3. Quilts must be made of 100% cotton fabric using new materials
                  4. The challenge fabric must be used on the front of the quilt
(If you would like your quilt to be judged, please check the box on the back of the Quilt ID card.)

What pattern do I use?

You may use any pattern you like - design your own or use a commercial pattern.

Tags and Labels:

Quilts must have a Project Linus label sewn in a back corner of the quilt and a challenge ID tag pinned to the back of the quilt. (Be sure to fill out the front and back of the card.)

Can I purchase more challenge fabric?

You can purchase 1 yard of additional challenge fabric from Lois Misko, as long as the supply lasts. Cost is $5.00 per yard.

When are the quilts due?

Quilts MUST be turned in to Lois Misko or Linda Peffer two weeks before the Make a Difference Luncheon on 10-28-17 to prepare them for display at the event.

Please do not take your quit to a drop-off location. We don't want to take a chance that it may not get picked up on time or get mixed in with the regular blanket donations.

Please contact Lois or Linda before dropping off your Make a Difference quilt. Make sure that you have it in a bag that is well-labeled "Make a Difference Quilt".
